"In
the event that my Democratic Congressional representative
and Senators approve $95 billion for more war, I pledge to
change my registration to the Green Party, which is opposed
to any more war funding and supports an immediate troop withdrawal. I
feel moved to make this pledge because my representatives
have been taking my vote for granted and they need to feel
a voters' revolt. The war expense effects all other issues."

The Democratic leadership's bill to end the war is a cruel
hoax. While setting an August 2008 deadline for "redeployment,"
approving $95 billion more for war will allow troops to be
fighting long after the so-called deadline. It just will not
be called "combat." While calling it "training,
maintaining bases and guarding borders," troops will
be fighting and dying nevertheless, just as so-called "advisors"
did in Vietnam . Redeployment is not withdrawal. The
"support the troops" myth is belied by funding more
war and by unenforceable provisions for more training, supply
and rest for troops. The President is threatening a veto,
not because it slows down the war, but to blame someone else
if the war is finally lost and to stop the pork amendments. If
vetoed, a more honest bill will be reintroduced by the Democrats
which will fund the war without the above false promises. That
will show the Democratic leaders true colors (that they really
support the war). Unless they stop the funding, everything
else is window dressing. The only way to force Congress to
cut funds is by a voters' mass conversion to the Green Party. As
long as Democrats take us for granted, we will not get peace. This
bill is not progress. It is a setback toward a bipartisan
war.
The Palosi compromise has a "redeployment" date
of August 2008, which allows combat beyond that date under
a different name. The biggest problem with the Democrats'
compromise is that it appropriates lots of money for the false
premise of supporting the troops. But even Time Magazine
debunks that myth: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1591571,00.html
Why should Move On or anyone fall for it? We should
not let Mikulski, Cardin and Cummings, Sarbanes Jr. and Ruppersburger
get away with that absurd notion. We should trash the "support
the troops" myth head on.
Granted, if the compromise bill fails, a no-strings funding
bill would then pass, but at least legislators would have
to take a clear stand for or against the war, rather than
the fuzzy machinations currently pursued. The Dems want their
cake and eat it too. They want to appear anti-war while still
funding the war. We must stop that game even if Bush gets
no-strings funding. The war should be a neo con war, not a
bi-partisan war, which would be a catastrophe. We must allow
the neo cons to crash and burn in Iraq or force them out. Funding
is the issue. Redeployment means nothing. The American voters
against the war will increase and eventually stop the war.
Most voters do not pay attention to the horse-trading in Congress. They
just want the war stopped now. In spite of Move On's membership
polling of 85% for the Palosi compromise, it is not a step
in the right direction. It is better for the Democrats to
lose a vote for war funding than win a war funding vote
with meaningless conditions. The corporate-controlled Democratic
Party is part of the problem and the Green Party is the only
alternative. Please sign the Pledge and email 10 others today.
